WISH FOUNDATION’S COVID-19 RESPONSE ACTIVITIES IN INDIA
WISH Foundation has been addressing COVID-19 pandemic in India since early 2020 in partnership with LEHS, an Indian government-compliant, non-profit organization. The work is implemented within the government’s primary healthcare system, where we have been delivering direct services through our 700 plus clinics across the states of Assam, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, with a reach into 140 million population; as well as providing advisory services and technical support to these states in the designing and implementation of COVID-19 solutions. Thus far we have spent over $1 million on our COVIC-19 Relief efforts to date. With the onslaught of the second wave of COVID-19 hitting the country, we are in need of $1 million to protect and treat the population and address this deadly disease.

WISH’s current COVID-19 response is focused predominantly in four states - Assam, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. In the first week of March, at the onset of the pandemic, WISH launched a mass awareness campaign in communities through flyers, as well as individual and group interactions. Our doctors in 500 plus clinics began extending one to one education and counselling on primary prevention along with consultations and isolation of symptomatic cases, especially focusing on those with travel history.
As the situation developed and a greater number of cases began testing positive, state governments requested our technical assistance to address the pandemic. Since then, our State teams continue to be at the frontline of this war in the four states, with frequently growing expectations and responsibilities.
WISH has been engaged with the state governments Assam, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in developing and implementing COVID-19 containment strategies. Our technical support units (TSUs) are supporting:
- Setting up control rooms
- Overseeing the effective execution of quarantine efforts
- Overseeing social distancing measures
- Conducting active surveillance activities
- Conducting testing of suspected cases; and
- Ensuring isolation and management of positive cases; and home quarantine of those in contact with COVID-19 positive individuals.
We are implementing tele-consultations in all of our Digital Health & Wellness Centers and have improvised the screening process through specialized capacity-building trainings of frontline workers. We are enforcing social-distancing for improved health outcomes; including the deployment of enhanced point of care devices (PoCDs) and other cutting-edge technological innovations in forty-two facilities in Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan & Madhya Pradesh.
We have developed and disseminated risk-communication and community-engagement (RCCE) material that aligns with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. 1,230,000 people were reached in the 5 WISH states through Information Education and Communication (IEC) and Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) material.
